Achieve Your Health and Fitness Goals

Date

Trigger Warning! Truth Bombs Ahead.

Do you want to get off the fit/fat merry-go-round? Why does your willpower go MIA?

Are you tired of feeling tired all the time? If energy creates energy, conversely lethargy is going to create lethargy.

Do you have a chorus of annoying little aches and pains creeping into your body, that you just accept because you don’t have time to address the root cause?

You are exactly where you need to be right now because change is possible and you no longer have to be a slave to average. 2021 is closing out and in 2022 we are going to be stronger than our excuses. It’s time to stop dreaming and start doing! Authentic Health Studio will help you set, believe, and achieve your fitness goals.

Truth Bomb #1: Motivation is a Myth

Mel Robbins, lawyer, author, and TV host explodes the myth of motivation. It isn’t real, especially for the behaviours you don’t want to do. You are never going to feel like doing things that make you uncomfortable. You might experience a burst of willpower but that’s not sustainable. Successful people act, regardless of how they feel.

Even The Greatest, Muhammad Ali, is quoted as saying, “I hated every minute of training, but I said, ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion. ‘”

Action: Do it even if you don’t feel like it

Truth Bomb #2: Change Is Uncomfortable

Dr. Abraham Twerski epitomises change through adversity, using crayfish.

To paraphrase: The exoskeleton of a crayfish is rigid and does not expand, whereas its body is soft and mushy. So how does a crayfish grow? It becomes uncomfortable. It hides under a rock away from predators, and casts off the old shell, producing a new one. This is a difficult process that results in growth, and the stimulus for that growth is being uncomfortable.

We have to accept the fact that if we are striving to be a better version of ourselves, it’s going to involve some discomfort, and most of that discomfort is psychological, not physical. We need to work out our mindset as well as our body, to truly gain long-term results.

Action: Discomfort is a signal for growth, embrace it

Truth Bomb #3: Set The Bar Low

At least when you start.

Nothing is going to psych you out more from those ultimate goals (and we all do it), by trying to achieve advanced results when you’re a beginner. Set achievable goals and then master each level.

If you want to be able to do 50 push-ups but you haven’t done a single one since college, don’t set yourself up for failure. Master the position first, technique is crucial to experience true benefits, then do 5. If 5 push-ups are a pushover then up it to 10. Sit in that pocket for a while and then do 15. You get it.

What you are doing by mastering incremental reps is not simply building strength but also building confidence. You are proving to yourself that you CAN achieve your goals.

Action: Master small goals to sustain progression

Truth Bomb #4: A Plan Without Action Is A Dream

Write your goals down. Make them meaningful and achievable. Then make a plan (using incremental goals) and put a clock on it. See it. Believe it. Achieve it. Repeat it.

Don’t make health and fitness your side hustle. So many of us try to fit fitness into our schedules not realising it should be the trunk by which the rest of our lives branch off. Our attitudes, approach, and energy all stem from how we feel about ourselves. Isn’t it time you felt good about yourself? I mean really felt like you were the person you were meant to be.

Act on it. You may feel like a fraud at first, that’s natural, but where are you going to be in a year’s time? You’ll be better or worse, but you won’t be the same.

Action: Behaviour makes a plan reality

Truth Bomb #5: Slow And Steady Doesn’t Win The Race

As humans, we actually crave routine. Our brain loves it, in fact, it creates “shortcuts” in our neural pathways to make behaviours easier. While autopilot is necessary for some aspects of our lives, wellness is not one of them.

Consider your nutrition. Water is vital and there’s not a single reputable nutritionist that doesn’t recommend it. But, how long are you going to live on water alone? Same with superfoods; broccoli, salmon, berries, eggs, etc. You need a variety of food in your diet to get all the nutrients you need.

Switch up your exercise program to keep your body adapting and refining. Don’t stagnate, even if what you’re doing is good for you. If you love boxing, try yoga. If you lift weights, try HIIT.

Action: Agility prepares you to win more challenges
